Superior Tile & Stone Completes Samsung Headquarters Project in San Jose

Everyday Samsung employees enter their new San Jose R&D/Sales headquarters. They see a modern building covered with 22,000 square foot of porcelain tile and 1,350 square feet of stone fascia and caps. Once inside, they walk along 48,000 square feet of porcelain tile in towers, lobbies, elevators, restrooms, and meeting spaces.

Superior was pleased to be part of the Samsung headquarters project team led by NBBJ (architect) and Webcor Builders (general contractor). With a total of 1.1 million square feet, the new LEED-certified Silicon Valley Headquarters includes a white metal, glass and terracotta exterior, a parking structure covered in a folding green-colored wall, and courtyards that include fitness facilities, artwork and cafes — some of which will be open to the public.

Take a virtual tour through Samsung’s North America headquarters, completed in 2015. View the NBBJ Samsung headquarters pictorial for a full set of images.

Safety is Our #1 Goal

Superior Tile & Stone is proud of its culture of safety. We work on it every day and we find time to celebrate it.

Superior Tile & Stone Safety Celebration 1

The Superior team held its annual Safety Meeting at Francesco’s restaurant where we celebrated another successful year of workplace safety.

Because Superior employees spend a good portion of their lives fulfilling our mission of excellence in tile, stone and terrazzo fabrication and installation, we’re dedicated to ensuring they always have a safe place to work. Safe, healthy, and engaged workers are the cornerstone of Superior’s success.

“Our number one goal is for our employees to return safely home to their families every day.”

Tommy Conner, CEO Superior Tile & Stone

Worker safety is our #1 priority.

Three years with no accidents on-the-job.

We are pleased to announce that we have not encountered an on-the-job accident for the past three years.

One of the lowest EMR’s in the industry.

We measure safety by our Experience Modification Ranking — a workmen’s compensation insurance ranking that begins at 1.0 and goes up due to accidents.

Superior Tile & Stone’s EMR is .67 – among the lowest in the industry!  We are proud of this achievement and will continue to improve upon it.

Clark/Hathaway Dinwiddie Selects Superior Tile & Stone for Salesforce Tower

What do Calacatta, Vera Gold, Olympia, Verde Maritaca, and Absolute Black have in common? They represent the types and colors of stone chosen by Boston Properties and Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects for one of the most exciting stone projects slated for 2015 – the Salesforce Tower in downtown San Francisco.Among The Giants

Superior Tile & Stone is proud to be the stone installation contractor for what will be the tallest building West of the Mississippi. Formerly known as Transbay Tower, with 1.4 million square feet of office space and 61 stories, Salesforce Tower will stand tall above the San Francisco skyline. It is the centerpiece of the San Francisco Transbay Terminal project, a multi-billion dollar plan that includes a multi-modal transportation hub, office space, retail, and residential towers.

Clark Construction/Hathaway Dinwiddie JV, the general contractor on the project, selected Superior based on its past performance, financial strength and depth of experience with complex fabricated stone projects throughout the Western United States.

Superior Tile & Stone’s CEO, Tommy A. Conner, and its President, Robert F. Herman, traveled to Italy in September 2014 to source stone for this project. The design team, led by Ed Dionne of Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects, and the owners – Boston Properties and Hines – ultimately settled on Calacatta Jule for the lobby walls, Vera Gold and Olympia Cream for the interior paving, Verde Maritaca for exterior landscape paving and Absolute Black for the vanities. Superior’s work will begin in late 2015, and is targeted for completion by the end of 2016.

Superior Fabrication

100_1029With over 60,000 square feet of fabrication facilities in Northern California and Las Vegas, Nevada, Superior Tile & Stone has the capacity to meet the most rigorous fabrication schedules while consistently delivering the ultimate in artistic stonework.

Superior shapes the finest granite and marble slabs with a variety of precision cutting machines incorporating precise laser technology and dynamic computer control. These systems assure accuracy and enhance flexibility of design while simultaneously providing enormous cutting capacity.

Superior’s high production water jets are each outfitted with two beds and dual heads to enhance Superior’s ability to meet difficult schedule requirements without sacrificing precision design and fabrication specifications.

Multilple Comandulli automatic multi-spindle belt edge polishing machines are remarkable for their edge quality, performance and production on every kind of material.

Multiple robotic CNC finish and shaping machines working in conjunction with four high speed inline polishers cut, route, shape and polish stone for large and small projects.  These machines provide the capacity to finish thousands of lineal feet per day of the most integral edge designs imaginable.

Before a piece of finished stone leaves Superior’s factory, Superior’s artisans carefully inspect and, where necessary, touch up the finished product by hand to ensure that Superior exceeds its customers’ specifications.

To protect its workers and the environment, Superior performs all of its fabrication using wet processes, and recycles water and stone cuttings – processing over 20,000 gallons of water per day. The net result is environmentally conscious, consuming no more water than an average household!

Efficiency and dedication extend to the shipping department that delivers the finished product, often within 24 hours.

Superior’s team of artists, craftsmen and technicians demonstrate their pride of workmanship in the finished product.  Delicate beauty lies within the world’s strongest materials. Homes, office buildings and hotels enhance their spaces with the charm and durability of granite, marble, tile and stone.
